Yes, it like a jerking motion. at all speeds and idle (of course!). Like a very quick loss of power, almost like a bad gear shift.

I've done a seperate post with few replies so I'll post here! I have a 2005 mpv es with the 3.0. 2 years ago the cel would come and go, finally scanned it to a p0305. I replaced front 3 plugs and cyl 5 coil, cel went away for a few weeks then cel came back on but no real big difference in driving. So now after replacing 3 rear plugs and cyl 5 injector with 204k on it I'm stumped!!! I cleaned tb when intake was off and inspected pcv hose looks ok. All 5 other coils are motorcraft so perhaps they are original???!!!. Just as of yesterday it does sputter on acceleration and has a noticeable miss. It idles fine but when in gear it acts up. I've called the dealer and everything I've done they would have recommended. Btw I've been running Lucas fuel injector cleaner through the tank. I'm at a loss! Only other info I've grabbed is cyl 5 does have spark and when running and pull elec connector of cyl 5 coil seems to not run any different. I've seen live data while running and at idle the spark advance bounces around. Help me!!!

My MPV 01 started having hiccups last fall. Could only feel them when engine on drive, but stopped (at a red light), and a warm engine. Also the throttle wasn't too responsive. Sometimes there was a P0303 (misfire cyl 3) that went off by itself, and back. Using high-octane gas reduced the hiccup, but not completely. As per Mazda, the code will appear if, during two consecutive rides, a certain percentage of misfires is exceeded. That explains why occasional hiccups may not cause a CEL. Spark plugs and wires were changed, and MAF cleaned, two years ago. It remained the coilpack. The original part from 2001. Bought a new one at Rockauto. There is enough space to do the work without having to remove else than what connects to it. The voltage ground return path is the engine itself, so before installing the new one, I took great care to use a metal brush to clean the screws, the lugs of the RF capacitor, and also the lug that connects a ground braid going the other side of the pack, between the pack and the engine. Reinstalled everything, and voila! no more hiccups and the throttle response is good. Case solved!
Keepin'em alive as long as DIYly feasible.
